About

The Root of It All

My love for the color green runs deep. I guess that checks out when you’re born with green eyes. It even carried over to my choice of football team, the Green Bay Packers. There were phases of other colors, like my Emo pink and black phase (it wasn't a phase) in middle school/ early high school. But alas, all things led back to green.

I only really found my green thumb in early 2019, after many years of killing basil plants and my best friend and soul sister patiently teaching me the ways of plants. However, being around plants and flowers goes back to my childhood. I remember helping my grandma plant her Geraniums annually, helping my mom water the Ferns that hung out on our porch, and warm summer nights dead-heading Petunias with my step-mom.

The plant dedication became very real, as I found it extremely necessary to move at least 20-30 house plants back with me when I moved back home from living in Colorado for 5 years, in December. Let’s just say the hotel room was very tropical and the dogs were very confused. While Colorado is on the brain, that's where I fell into the cannabis industry first starting as a social media special and ending with practically running all of the marketing things. Navigating the industry is a wild world on its own, but throw in community guidelines and regulations with social media and marketing in general, and you better hold onto your hats. Over the years I've kept up with the workarounds, and the strategies and have picked tips of my own on how to navigate cannabis online.

Back home in STL, my love of plants became a full-time job that helped pay the bills. I worked at two different garden centers where my self-taught plant knowledge grew past houseplants into the world of annuals, perennials, and edible plants. It was at one of the shops that I found that I could marry my love for plants with my vast library of social media marketing knowledge. A dream came true that I didn’t know I needed. Being around plants 24/7 leveled up my collection reaching at one point to at least 175 plants. Like the pressure of keeping up with the plants, I was feeling pressure in many ways working for someone else. I was also feeling the stress of dealing with a deep mental health episode. After taking time to focus, regroup, and heal I knew it was time to do something for me.

After a decade of working for other people and wearing all the hats, I wanted to take my talents out on the road to do my own thing. I also have a deep passion for small businesses and want to help see them succeed. I love social media and also hate it. But I know how important it is but how it's also the bane of all small businesses' existence. I don't ever want to take away from their brand or voice but to help them with their goals through social media marketing.

From there, all it took was a conversation with a local business owner shared over a snake plant repotting to spark that own fire within my soul to create Planty of Greenery…Rooted in Social.

At one point, I had 175 houseplants plus a giant outdoor garden. I'm now at about 65 and have a small balcony garden.

Plants and social media marketing are very similar. They both need to be nurtured with attention. They both require change to achieve a desired outcome. They're both ever-growing.

It was and still is a constant trial and error and honestly, that is how I feel about social media marketing. It's ever-changing, and that can be so daunting for business owners with already enough on their plate. My passion for plants and social media can be shown in the work I do and the clients I continue to attract.
